What to expect when I go in for a treatment.

On the first visit, Jae will conduct a full personal consultation, taking into consideration your past and present health and lifestyle. Whether you are trying reflexology for relaxation or a desire to reduce symptoms of an illness, a full medical history will be taken. This will enable her to tailor a treatment to your specific needs.

Your privacy is of utmost importance and you can be assured of patient confidentiality.

A reflexology session lasts approximately one hour (may be slightly longer for your first visit). You will be invited to lie on a treatment couch, face up, and as the treatment is generally carried out on the feet, you will only need to remove your shoes and socks.

Jae will then use her hands to apply precise pressure techniques to the feet, treating specific points which correspond to all organs and systems of the body.

After your session, to gain the maximum benefit, try to take some time to relax in order to help boost your body’s own natural healing abilities. Drinking an increased amount of water is beneficial to help flush any toxins from your system. Reflexology is an individualized treatment and therefore it cannot be known in advance how you will react to the treatment. Most people feel a sense of well-being and relaxation and even increased energy. Some may experience light-headedness, nausea, and/or lethargy. Some may also feel an emotional response. These reactions are generally temporary and a part of the healing process. Take note of anything you feel after a treatment. Feedback plays an important role to the reflexologist as it shows how your body is responding to the treatment and this will help to tailor the treatment to your specific needs.
Why is more than one treatment often recommended?

If you have been to any complementary health practitioner you may be familiar with the concept of needing to return for a certain number of treatments. The reason for this is that unlike Western medicine, where a prescription medication is designed to stop or suppress certain symptoms, the complementary approach is to kick-start your body’s own innate healing mechanisms.

In today’s society, when everything is available NOW, this approach can sometimes be perceived as a more lengthy process. However, when successfully applied, it is generally the more healthy and ideal path to wellness. Sometimes with more chronic illnesses, over time, medication can start to lose its effect and it is then that it becomes apparent that restarting your body’s own innate healing mechanism is paramount to your well-being.

(In the case of illness, always consult with your doctor first. It is also worth mentioning here that Reflexology is ‘complementary’ which means that it can be used safely alongside conventional Western treatment and is not designed to contradict it.)
